Our clients, an international executive, and his wife hired our firm to remodel their pied-a-terre in a vibrant downtown area.
The original space displayed an ensemble of materials rather unexpected for a contemporary building in an urban setting, from Cantera stone to barn wood floors, all of which gave the spaces a dark and dingy atmosphere. 
“Sleek”, “contemporary”, “clean-lines”, and “unified style” are some of the words that describe their wishes. The first unifying element is a palette of taupe, warm grey, and white, texturally presented on satin walls, polished floors, richly veined woods, and chrome accents. 
Our approach to clean-lines translated into pared-down furnishings and a reduction in decoration, using the spaces as canvases to showcase single features, such as the marble-clad fireplace or the kitchen island.
The home office was a pivotal part of the program; it needed to be clearly individualized without being totally walled-off or dark. Originally, foyer and office shared an undifferentiated space, so we created a chrome and frosted glass partition with a sliding door that provides privacy and brings light into the space. The same partition offers support to a glass console, adding an essential foyer function to what was an undefined and narrow entrance. 
This project involved numerous custom features that required extensive detail drawings and assiduous collaboration with different trades during construction.

2016 SECOND PLACE WINNER - ASID - RESIDENTIAL & FIXTURE

A couple of empty nesters decided to downsize and live a simpler life, one involving minimalist environments. They built a house, bought a few pieces and sought professional help to achieve a more edited and unified version for their spaces. 
The project included assessing existing pieces, and defining the need for new ones while doing a detailed study of the architecture, and reviewing the best options to achieve the clients’ wishes. The scope of the program was varied and comprised custom furnishings, rug designs, paint, lighting, accessories, floral and Ikebana design and last but not least, the design and creation of important artwork for the residence as well as the task to commission work from other artists. 
This project was exceedingly rewarding. From its conceptual sketches, throughout its evolution and installation, it was filled with the satisfaction that strengthens the vocational core of a designer.

LUXURY BATHROOMS

2021 AWARD WINNING DINING TABLE

Our clients, a couple of art collectors who love to entertain, requested that this dining table be simple, sculptural, and richly textured, a table that would project a sense of quiet luxury. 

We had to aim for "impacting clarity" so the table would live up to its environment and coexist harmoniously with it. Numerous sketches and a laboriously reductive process led us to the final base design and a tabletop that would engage while complementing it.  

When it came to using materials, we kept our minds open. We explored wood, concrete, glass, stone, and steel and adjusted each design scenario to the particular qualities of each material. 

Finally, we decided to use steel because it gave us the most freedom of forms and structural capacity. The legs were built as hollow sheet-metal volumes, assembled as a single unit, and transported to an artist's atelier
where the gold leaf and lacquer were applied. 

The tabletop is seven feet at its widest, which presented a problem as few marble slabs offer such a width. In addition, we needed a light stone with a very linear veining to contrast with the sinuous base. Add all those variables, and our search became a Via Dolorosa throughout every showroom and boneyard in town. 

Altogether designing and managing the construction of this table was a most enjoyable experience. On the installation day, our clients were breathless, delighted, and full of compliments. This moment reassured us of the positive effect designers have on the human environment.

English Desert Home - Great Room

A family of English background with a taste for traditional interiors was relocated to Arizona. They brought a particular aesthetic and a sense of comfort that needed to be incorporated into the Southwest style. They referred to this Great Room as “the warehouse” because of its size and drabness, and wanted an inviting space that suited their taste and lifestyle. While at home, this family of three generations, enjoy being in the proximity of each other. 
During hiking trips throughout Arizona, the clients accumulated a collection of rocks of different colors and put together a palette they liked for their home.  A predilection for the layered patterns that characterize traditional English interiors was clearly expressed as a request for the project.  
The finished room is the synthesis of a highly edited process in which the two styles merge effortlessly to create a space that totally meets the clients’ expectations. 

Desert Home - Gold Canyon, AZ

Eastern Abode

Out with the old and in with the new. A mother with a young daughter, purchased a home to start a new life. The first phase of the project was the Great Room, where their lives meet for quick breakfast in the morning, then homework, cooking, visiting, and watching TV in the evenings.  
Out went the faux leather sofa-loveseat reclining ensemble and all the random casegoods that accompanied them. In came a “U” sectional with double chaise-lounges, which quickly made them forget those reclining devices; it was upholstered in mink grey chenille to honor Lulu, their beloved hamster. Orange accents concur with the family’s heritage: in Taoism orange indicates change, adaptability, and spontaneity.
The project required a workstation, which mother and daughter use for household paperwork and homework respectively. They both love their new space, which has become the preferred background for a fulfilling home life.

Mountain Living - Great Room

A “very” urban family forays into bucolic life, buys a cabin in the mountains and hires a designer. The first premise was “we don’t want it too rustic” followed by “not too regional, a cottage that could be anywhere in the West.” With three children in elementary school and frequent sleepovers, the home needed to be kid friendly and provide special spaces for them. Adding the parents’ rich social life:  the home needed to comfortably accommodate up to ten people on any given weekend or during vacations. 
The children had a very active and uninhibited participation in the color selection for most rooms in the house except for the master and guest’s suites. The parents, who have spent vacations at summer homes in the Northeast, had a slightly more tailored vision of cabin life. 
The finished home has been a total success, loved by parents, children, and all their friends.

Territorial Update - Kitchen

The remodeling of this Territorial home focused on two main areas: an outdated kitchen and a dark master bathroom. The clients’ basic requests were consistent for both rooms: the remodel needed to complement the architecture with a modern vision.
Although generous in the views they afford, fanned floor plans produce narrow, long, and curved rooms; consequently, all design strategies had to operate within the confines of such space.
A rigorous selection of surfaces and strategic manipulation of space led to a dramatically changed home that harmonizes with the architecture and suits the client’s tastes.

BREAKFAST NOOK TABLE - CUSTOM DESIGN BY ERNESTO GARCIA, ASID

A large family who religiously shares breakfast and dinner needed a sturdy, comfortable and ample table that would withstand rowdy dinners, spilled sodas, animated board games, and many other functions.

Their Breakfast Nook's ceiling height is sixteen feet, and it's part of a larger space that includes the kitchen and Great Room. Next to such high and spacious areas, this table needed a physical presence that its context would not dwarf; that was one of our primary design guidelines.  

Functionally,  a stone surface was the best option for such a tabletop, so we searched for suitable granite and had its surface honed and sealed to a texture that feels like leather to the touch. In addition, we designed a wide stone table skirt to give the tabletop a heftier appearance. 

Naturally, the legs needed to look robust enough to express their bearing function in relationship to such a hefty top. Most importantly, as per our clients' request: legs that would leave plenty of leg-room "so we don't have to wear kneepads to sit at the table."
